The human factor: it’s the reason why too many new system projects that look good on paper fail to achieve the business case ROI.
When introducing new software, or upgrading existing
systems, you need to make sure that software is used effectively,
that users are aware of any new policies, or can effectively
utilise appropriate shortcuts. Having your users prepared for
change is the fast track to achieving project success.
By integrating a programme of learning and support into your
migration, you'll ensure more effective users, reduced support
requirements and improved overall success.
BT South Tyneside - desk top transformation
Microsoft Windows and Office is used every day by
over 4,000 users, so upgrades promise major productivity
improvements - but significant risk if
mishandled.
To establish the specific requirements we undertook a
needs analysis, focusing on Skills Validation, to identify the
areas of training needed. Then we designed a bespoke modular
course, which showed users how to use the new tool effectively
within the BT SouthTyneside environment.
By creating a bespoke course it was possible to
align training to BT's specific needs and include key corporate
messages. Particular skills were mapped to the jobs performed in
each department, allowing us to evaluate the results of the needs
analysis to group staff into 'user training groups' based on
current competencies and role requirements.
Despite the high number of users transferring
to the new technology, the volume of training calls at BT South
Tyneside has dropped since the beginning of the programme,
demonstrating that users have gained a firm understanding of the
technology and now require less support.
Our solution
We have decades of experience creating, managing, implementing
and measuring large-scale business applications training
programmes. We understand that organisations need their staff to be
using a new system quickly, competently and with minimal disruption
to the business.
A structured approach
Our training projects are highly structured, with agreed
milestones against defined deadlines, typically following our
project stages:
- Design
- Pilot
- Implementation and evaluation
- Closure
Blended learning for more successful, cost-effective
results
We take the greatest choice of learning methods and use the best
of each approach, combining them into a single, seamless, blended
learning programme that delivers great training in the most
cost-effective way. A QA blended learning programme might
include:
- classroom training.
- coaching or 'floor-walking'.
- eLearning.
- lectures.
- self-paced training.
- support.
- workshops.
Business applications training programmes of any size
QA can create business applications training programmes for
local, national and international organisations - and has
successfully delivered programmes that train tens of thousands of
people.
Always in control
An experienced QA project manager will control every aspect of
the training project, providing regular communications and detailed
reporting - including learning analytics to provide a clear view of
the success of the project.
